Gateway is a long term work experience where students have the opportunity to explore real work which is linked to practical qualifications. We are in our third year of the Gateway programme at St. Patrick’s College and many of the students have benefitted by employment or enrolling in further training. We also provide two week work experience opportunities for students who are not in the Gateway programme. In both programmes we expect our students to act and be treated as though they were an employee.
Gateway creates positive pathways, develops confidence and a greater self awareness for our students who want to explore skills and work in an Industry setting. At the 2008 Graduation dinner, Rector Fr. Paul Martin welcomed employers, parents, TEC representative Vaughn Crimmins and Mr Chris McCarthy Chair of the BoT. The students were presented with a certificate of achievement each and employers presented with a gift as a token of our appreciation for their support of Gateway. Graduating students have attained employment in Trades, Hospitality, IT and Banking and we are always looking for new employment placements. Mike Woods (1974-78 T) is the Careers Adviser and Colleen Flynn is the Gateway Manager.
The transition Department is keen to be in contact with Old Boys of St Patrick’s College who might be willing to provide any of the following:
