ALSO: Celebrating 165 years of Catholic Education on Golders Hill, Thorndon The countdown is on for all those interested in attending the Jubilee Celebrations at Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Thorndon this Labour Weekend. Tickets are selling like hotcakes so you have to be quick to be in. This is great chance for the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish, together with past pupils, parents and those with children at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and St Mary’s College to reconnect, share stories and make new friends. Not to be forgotten are the past pupils of Marist Brothers Thorndon who also form part of this history. The weekend’s celebrations get off to a social start with Wine and Cheese in the Foyer at Sacred Heart Cathedral School, 12 Guildford Terrace from5pm to 7:30pm on Friday, 23 October. On Saturday 24 October there will be a historical display in St Mary’s Hall and in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Foyer from 11am. Guests are welcome to wander through the displays during the campus open day while the sporting and cultural activities take place. Between 1pm and 2pm there will be sporting events at the St Mary’s netball courts with demonstrations by St Mary’s and Sacred Heart teams, and a fun challenge between past and present pupils and teachers. A celebration dinner will be held from 7pm-10pm on Saturday night at the Loaves and Fishes Hall, next to St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, on the corner of Molesworth and Hill Streets. Speakers at the dinner will include Sister Marcellin Wilson who will talk about the Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust, and Aysser Aljanabi, a Muslim and Head Girl at St Mary’s College, in 2006. Come and take part in hearing these fascinating speakers, sharing some hearty fare and fine wines, and taking the opportunity to reconnect and share stories and mingle with old and new friends. Be sure to register early and secure your place as the celebration dinner function is limited to 100 people. Tickets for the meal are $60 per person and include a spit roast dinner with all the trimmings, delicious desserts, a selection of wines for the tables and non-alcoholic beverages. The celebrations will continue with a midday mass at St Paul’s, followed by a luncheon at the Loaves and Fishes Hall from 1pm.
